YouTube is one of the most popular video streaming platforms, visited by many people because it contains a wide variety of content ranging from entertainment to textbooks. Accessing the site is quite easy, as you only need to use a browser. Sometimes, although problems can arise when trying to access YouTube. In this last article in our series of bug fixes we look at a YouTube error related to the reading ID.

Before following the recommended troubleshooting steps for this particular problem, I recommend that you first try restarting your computer. This way you can update your operating system, remove damaged temporary data and solve most software problems quite efficiently.

When you try to play a YouTube video, a message may be displayed. An error has occurred. Try again later.  Reading ID. This error message is due to several factors, and the next steps for troubleshooting are necessary.

Clearing your browser’s cache and data

One of the most common reasons for this error message is that the data in the browser’s cache is corrupted. If this is a problem, you should clear your browser’s cache and data.


  • In the upper right corner, press More than (three vertical dots or an upward pointing arrow, depending on your browser version).
  • Press Additional tool
  • Press Delete Data .
  • Select a time range. To delete all, select All the time.
  • Check the boxes for cookies and other website data, as well as for cached images and files.
  • Press Delete data


  • Click on the icon of the Hub (star with three horizontal lines).
  • Press History in the left bar
  • Select Delete history
  • Tick the boxes corresponding to the cookies and the data stored on the website and to the data and files in the cache (any other items may be omitted).
  • Press Delete


  • Click on the menu in Firefox (in the upper right corner).
  • Choose History
  • Select Delete last history .
  • In a drop-down list for time range for cleaning: go with Everything.
  • Check the Cachebox (everything else may go unnoticed).
  • Press Delete now
  • Reboot or upgrade Firefox


  • Press Safari in the menu bar.
  • Choose Preferences
  • Select the Data Protection tab .
  • Select Location data management
  • Press Delete all
  • Press . Now remove to confirm.

Reboot the modem or router

Another factor that can cause this problem is that your computer does not have an internet connection. Try a different tab in your browser and then visit any website. If you are unable to access the website, try rebooting your modem or router to resolve the problem. Just turn off the power and wait a minute before you turn it back on.

Clear DNS cache

The DNS cache is a database stored on your computer that contains information about all the websites you have visited. This cache can sometimes be corrupt, preventing you from accessing the website. If this causes the problem, you need to clear the DNS cache.

  • Press the Windows + R button to open the startup dialog.
  • Type cmd and press Ctrl + Shift + Enter to open a high command line. When you request UAC (User Account Control), press Yes to grant administrative privileges.
  • Type the following command on the command line and press Enter to empty your DNS cache : ipconfig/flushdns

Try the Google Public DNS

Your Internet Service Provider will normally set your DNS to the DNS of your choice. Sometimes changing this setting to Google Public DNS solves this problem.

  • Press the Windows + R button to open the Run dialog box.
  • Enter ncpa.cpl and press Enter to open the network connection window.
  • Select the connection for which you want to configure the Google Public DNS.
  • On the Wi-Fi/Ethernet Properties screen, go to the Network tab and open the settings window under This Connection.
  • Select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and press the Properties button.
  • In the Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) window, go to the General tab.
  • Select the switch in Use the following DNS server address and replace the desired and alternative DNS server with the following values: 8.8.8 and
  • Save the changes and repeat steps 3 and 4 with Internet Protocol version 6 (TCP/IPv6), but this time use these values for the desired and alternative DNS server: 2001:4860:4860::8888 and 2001:4860:4860::8844.
  • Reboot the computer.

Reinstalling Browser

It is possible that your browser contains corrupt files, which is the cause of this problem. To solve the problem, you will need to download and install a newer version of your browser.

  • Click the Windows +R button to open the start dialog.
  • Enter appwiz.cpl and press Enter.
  • Scroll down to find the browser that caused the error.
  • Right-click and select Delete.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to remove the browser from your computer.
  • After uninstalling Browser , restart Computer .
  • When your computer starts using the built-in browser (Internet Explorer or Edge), go to the download page of a third-party browser you have previously uninstalled and download the install executable file.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to reinstall the browser.
